K9’s Cancer Run and Camp Bow Wow

It’s been a busy two weeks at Kyjen, with trade shows and events galore! Just wanted to share a few shots from our favorite annual event: the K9’s Cancer Run/Walk put on by Camp Bow Wow’s Bow Wow Buddies Foundation.

What a stellar group of people with a great cause! Photographer, Jaime Rowe, took some great shots throughout the day. Check out the first photo of the bunch.. can you see the Kyjen logo on the bandanna? Pretty cool!

FYI — Camp Bow Wow is a spectacular place to leave your pooch to play! Be sure to check out your nearest location!

#5. Conundrum Hot Springs

Aspen, CO - Hot Springs – 18 miles

This hike was absolutely breathtaking. I highly recommend it, and if you want to check something off of that good ol’ bucket list, then these hot springs are for you! You can wear your bathing suit or bare the necessities I mean you are in the wilderness, bears and all!

The most beautiful, plush trail I have been on thus far!

We were engulfed in Aspens, and the colors were magnificent!

Boo Boo was carried in my Outward Hound pet carrier the majority of the hike.

Argys picks up sticks along the way sporting his Outward Hound backpack too!

A clutch camping spot is necessary and of course the Hot Springs!

A new and better way to exercise your dog

At the end of a long work day, it’s hard enough to get ourselves to exercise… go to the gym… go for a run… I know it’s the last thing I want to do if I’m tired. But what happens when you have a dog that depends on you for its exercise? When you’re too tired to give them the “play” they need, their well-being suffers.

Collegiate Peaks area Kyjen backpacking trip

A few of us at Kyjen did a short backpacking trip last weekend to a beautiful lake in the Collegiate Peaks area of Colorado, outside the town of Buena Vista.

Because the hike was a short 3 miles, we thought it would be no problem to bring some extra gear and good food. Boy were we wrong! Several of our packs weighed over 60 pounds making for a tough hike both ways. It did not help that we also had to carry some extra kids gear with us too.

While camping at around 11,000 feet, several of us froze at night as we did not have adequate tents or sleeping bags. Despite warm sunny day time temperatures of 75, the night time temperature dropped to 38 degrees.

We caught and ate wonderful fresh poached trout (just cooked with water in a pan with some lemon salt added). Not the slightest bit fishy tasting, even those that were skeptical to try it loved it!

One problem though… we were so busy having fun, we forgot to take enough pictures! But, enjoy the few here that we did take. And don’t forget to plan a trip to Colorado before you die!

This past weekend, I took a trip to visit my family in central Florida. My parents, who have 4 dogs in their household, have a house conveniently located on a small lake. The smallest dog in the pack, Lily, likes to cool off in the lake every once in a while. I decided to surprise Lily with her very own Outward Hound Pet Saver Life Jacket!

After a few quick laps in the lake, Lily seemed very comfortable in her new life jacket! She had no trouble swimming or running in it. The best part, she can easily be lifted into the boat using the handle on top. Take a look at the photos and videos here.
