McMoose dog sleds down hill in June with no sled!

You might have seen the viral video being passed around showing some Labs sledding down hill sans sleds! They looked like they were having a lot of fun — not to mention, it was a really funny video.

About an hour or so outside of Denver, while traveling with McMoose, we came across a snowfield. With this viral video fresh in our minds, we headed out with McMoose! Within minutes, he was having a ball sliding down the hill with no sled!  Have a look at this short video, it’s great!

Get Out and Play with Your Dog!

90 degrees in Denver, but there’s still snow in the high country!

With temperatures close to 90 degrees in the Denver area this weekend, we knew it was time for another high country hike with our dog.  This hike is located about an hour outside of Denver, off I-70 near Idaho Springs at Chinns Lake and then to Sherwin Lake — a good 4 miles round trip.

In August, you would normally be able to get all the way up to the lakes via a 4 wheel drive, but with the late snows in May this year, the area still had plenty of snow on the ground. It’s about 20 degrees cooler up there, making it a great escape from the heat of Denver.  The views and scenery do not disappoint either…

Beautiful wildlife pictures from a dog hike in Arizona!

Mike our VP of Key Accounts here at Kyjen took a hike in Arizona with his dog Danner last weekend.  Not only is Mike a big time outdoorsman, he is also a great photographer.  Check out these great photos he took on this hike. (The captions below are from Mike)

Even a Manatee in Florida plays with our toys!

One of our customers in Florida just emailed us this picture of a manatee playing with one of our H2O toys!  Apparently multiple manatees like to play with our H2O toys in the canal behind her house. Very cool!

The Best Dog-Friendly Hotels in Huntington Beach, CA

Huntington Beach, CA also known as Surf City USA (our home city here at Kyjen, and the city where I grew up)  is a great place to visit with dogs. The city was named “DogTown USA” by Dog Fancy Magazine in 2009 for its canine friendliness. In this video I show you the two best dog-friendly hotels in Huntington Beach, or where I suggest you stay when you visit:

  • The Shore Break hotel even has special packages for visitors with dogs, including pet sitting and some cool pet amenities.
  • The Hilton Waterfront Resort also has a dog package, where they waive the $75 pet fee along with some good dog amenities.

A quick internet search will pull up other less expensive dog firendly hotels in Huntington Beach, but in my opinion these are the two best choices and they have by far the best locations.

See my other post about Dog-friendly places in Southern California for many other things to do and places to go with your dog in the surrounding areas. Also see our google map of Dog-Friendly places in Socal (Look for more dog-friendly additions to this map in the future.)

Dog Learns to Swim with help of Lifejacket

Nine-year-old Steel refused to swim for the first 8 years of his life. That all changed when he started wearing an Outward Hound Lifejacket!  Steel belongs to Cody, one of our Sales Managers here at Kyjen. The lifejacket gave him the added confidence he needed to swim effortlessly. Now it’s hard to get him out of the water. His other dog, Louis, a Dachshund, now swims like never before as a result of wearing his Outward Hound lifejacket.

The lesson here is, many dogs who are afraid of water and/or cannot swim will take up swimming with the extra buoyancy and safety of a dog lifejacket.

PS. This video is also pretty funny: The big puppy, Judge, keeps nipping at Cody’s crotch the whole time he is talking. The Dachshund keeps swimming and moving his legs even after Cody picks him up out of the water.

Lake Powell Dog Heaven- part 1 of 2

Lake Powell must be close to heaven for dogs. Lake Powell is the second largest man-made reservoir in the US, located between Utah and Arizona border. If you visit via houseboat, there are literally hundreds of coves where you can relax and your dogs can run free.  The scenery is spectacular, I call it “Grand Canyon on a lake”.  Check out this video to see for yourself.  If you’ve never been there, it’s another place to add to your list of places to see before you die (in my opinion at least). While technically not in Colorado, I added it to our google map of Dog-friendly places in the Colorado area.

Lake Powell Dog Heaven- part 2 of 2

This is part 2, if you missed part 1, click here.

One of the great things about Lake Powell is once you are out on the lake, you don’t need to worry about breaking out your wallet and spending money everytime you need to eat or want to do something.   If you vacation there via boat, once you are anchored in your own private cove or beach you can relax and enjoy yourself.  If you rent a houseboat, you’ll have all the luxuries of home without all the dirt and other things many people don’t like about camping.

In addition to the incredible Grand-Canyon-like scenery, it’s a paradise for dogs.  Dogs can run and swim to their hearts content, and at night they sleep like dead dogs!
